Amy Gorin
Vice Provost for Health Sciences & Interdisciplinary Initiatives
Dr. Amy Gorin serves as Vice Provost for Health Sciences and Interdisciplinary Initiatives at the University of Connecticut. She is also a Professor of Psychological Sciences and formerly served as the Director of the Institute for Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy (InCHIP). In these roles, Dr. Gorin leads university-wide efforts to strengthen partnerships across academic, clinical, and research programs focused on advancing population health and interdisciplinary inquiry.
She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Stony Brook University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Brown Medical School’s Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center. Her research centers on developing innovative behavioral strategies and environmental interventions to support long-term weight loss and maintenance. Notably, she has demonstrated “ripple effects,” where weight management in one individual positively influences the behavior of other household members.
At UConn, Dr. Gorin established the Obesity Research Interest Group—now more than 170 members strong—and directed the Training and Development Core at InCHIP. She has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and secured funding from the National Institutes of Health to support her work on behavioral weight management.
Dr. Gorin is deeply committed to mentorship, faculty development, and the integration of team science approaches to address complex health challenges. As Vice Provost, she champions strategic collaboration across the schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Allied Health to foster innovation and elevate the university’s impact on public health.
